Description

Written in 1993, “Where I’m From” has been widely used as a writing model. In August 2019, it was featured on NPR’s Morning Edition.  Listeners were invited to submit their own “Where I’m From” poems. Almost 1,400 were received in 48 hours!

This broadside was hand-set in Bulmer and Garamond Old Style type, and then printed on a 1920 Chandler & Price printing press. Three hundred copies were printed on Somerset paper and signed by the author.

A freelance writer and teacher, George Ella Lyon served as Kentucky’s Poet Laureate for 2015-2016.

The illustration is a wood engraving of Dutch elm leaves and forsythia by Wesley W. Bates.  Wes has extensive publication credits as a book illustrator, and his fine art work has been widely exhibited in Canada, England and the U.S. He lives in Ontario, Canada.
